After going nearly a year without playing in a Grand Slam tournament, Serena Williams has signalled that she's finally ready to give it her all, defeating the unseeded Aravane Rezaï 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round at Wimbledon. Williams may not have won the title yet, but the victory is an excellent first step towards reestablishing her tennis prowess after a series of serious health problems.
What started as a pair of operations to repair a torn tendon in her right foot led to blood cuts in both of her lungs and a hematoma. Despite genuine fears from the star herself that she wouldn't survive, Serena has not only rebounded, but is back to playing tennis again just as powerful and dominant as ever.
